The Inaugural Post on McLeods Table Farm Blog

raking hay

This short missive represents the first blog post to come from McLeod’s Table Farm.  To be more accurate, this is from Sandy Stewart one half of the owners of McLeod’s Table.

So, why even initiate an attempt to write and maintain a blog?  I’ve been trying to convince myself for some time why this is a good idea.  Except for the need to have a creative outlet for writing, I struggle with finding a good one.  I can certainly find plenty of reasons why it’s a bad idea.  In fact, I’ve used a lot of them in the past.  A small sampling – nobody is interested in what you have to say; why do you think the world give a hoot about your latest project or views on the Kennedy assassination?; the writing is usually terrible; they include all of these hyperlinks and you can’t follow anything; etc.

I have been as guilty as anyone about criticizing the numerous bloggers that are out there.  I also stand guilty of following a few for a while and then losing interest.  Nevertheless, here I am entering the lowly esteemed world of those who feel compelled to blog.

Even though I only listed one positive reason to do this above, I must admit there are other reasons that may or may not turn out to be good.  For one, I hope that some of what is written here will appeal to folks who have an interest in, live in, or want to live in a rural place and view the world from the perspective I feel fortunate to have.  That is, I can look out any window of my house and not see the neighbors.

Second, I might stumble on something to say that is actually meaningful to other people.  I plan to write about the farm and the happenings here, but I cannot be helped from some general commentary.  I read some really interesting articles on parenting this morning and would like bring those forward and maybe, just maybe, help the conversation along.

Finally, I think it will be kind of fun.  Sitting down and writing is always fun, but I think the time in between writing will be enriched by keeping an eye toward what might be interesting and meaningful to put forth to others.

So, if you are interested in what is written here, that’s wonderful.  If you lose interest and move on, I understand.  If you are turned off by some of the subject matter, I apologize.  A blog should be honest and this one is has that intention.

Above all, thanks for checking it out.  Thank you for visiting McLeod’s Table Farm online.  Take care and I’m looking forward to visiting with you next time!
